The Making of a Good Manager

Annie Buddle, is delighted to have recently completed her Team Leader Apprenticeship with Quest, and she recalls how it all began.

Annie said: “I sat down with my employers, and they offered me the opportunity to start my Team Leader Apprenticeship as part of my development as a Trainee Manager at The Brewers Arms.”

Annie continues: “The Apprenticeship has been an excellent tool to help me learn valuable skills whilst gaining management experience in the pub and being hands-on. I learnt all about the leadership styles and management techniques as part of my Apprenticeship. I know this will stand me in good stead going forward. We regard ourselves as a ‘pub family’ and we are a small team here. I have been given more responsibility since completing my Apprenticeship. I am now doing the staff rotas, appraisals, 1-2-1s and holiday forms. It is such a good feeling having completed my Apprenticeship and I am excited about what the future might hold!”

Claire Reade, Apprenticeship-Trainer at Quest said: “Annie has worked really hard and through challenging times to ensure she has progressed in her Apprenticeship. Her work really shows the distance travelled and her confidence has grown as a team leader as she has taken on many more responsibilities within the business. She has been able to apply the knowledge, skills and behaviours learnt throughout her Apprenticeship in her day- to- day role, whilst having the support from her managers and peers. I wish her every future success!”
